Finally got a piece of the pie.

Happy to announce that my husband Matthew and I purchased our first home on  March 2, 2015. We started the house hunting around November of last year and became increasingly frustrated with the size of the houses in relation to the high asking price in Dallas. We began our search in North Dallas, where we currently live. I just couldn’t get over the fact that we would pay such a high price for a house I barely even liked. Matthew wanted: more space and a garage. Me: tons of space and old, like built in the1920’s old. To own a Craftsman or Prairie style house has always been a dream of mine. Didn’t take long to convince Matthew.

Of course this being such a popular style most of them didn’t last long on the market or of course were way over budget. Oak Cliff seemed ideal since it’s such an old part of Dallas, but those houses get snatched up like hot cakes. Somehow we found ourselves (nightly) driving around the Junius Heights/Munger Historic District area. The houses are A-MAZ-ING and slightly over budget. Like $250, 000 over. UGH!

So, we drove a little further south and stumbled upon a quiet little neighborhood south of Columbia. The houses were old! And super cute! AND lots of the houses were undergoing renovations.  The Santa Fe trail runs through this neighborhood. The neighborhood had everything I wanted: between Deep Ellum and Lakewood, super close to Greenville Ave. and Downtown.
Of course a few we liked sold pretty fast and some were just not right for us.

Fast forward to now: We found a 3 bedroom/2 bath, Craftsman, 2 story house, built in 1925, that wasn’t for sale. It’s a long story, but Matthew met the owner and she agreed to sell to us. I know sounds crazy, right? We pretty much verbally agreed to buy on Valentine’s Day. I know, I know, it’s just too sweet. One heck of a V-Day present.
Here’s the kicker: It needs to undergo massive renovations. Hence, the reason for this blog. I wanted a way to let family and friends track our progress and to have something to look back on as we conquer this huge project. BUT We are way excited!
